"Master Your Meditation" Exercise #1

Take a moment, now... rest, and notice whatever quality you and your body have as your unconscious process of relaxation starts now to begin deep inside...  And while your unconscious brings to you... deep inside at first... the release and relaxation you are here and now reading for, consciously you might, very soon... begin to take certain delight in noticing little by little, bit by bit or even nearly all at once...

How much have you already... slowed down in your unconscious... - is it now just enough... that you can enjoy noticing... consciously... your natural ability to hear... even more clearly now... the complete silence... that is always behind each sound... thought... and feeling... or is it now... even more apparent than before?

"Hypnotized" Just By Reading?

Through the years I have received many happy emails from people who were surprised to discover that something hypnotic had taken place simply by reading text I had created and presented.  Some had read material that I personalized for them through professional pen-pal activity - some had read articles that I had written, and once I even received a wonderful email from a person who expressed that a great burden had lifted simply by reading through hypnotic descriptions of services I had been offering at the time!

Relax When You Breathe

Your Body Is Responding To Your Thoughts!

---

 

I have a yellow tennis ball connected to a 23-inch-long string.  When I hold the string, with my thumb and forefinger, so that the ball just hangs freely, it becomes easy to demonstrate the instant-response our bodies have to our mind's thoughts and intentions.

When I create an internal image, in my mind, of the ball moving clockwise, the real ball moves clockwise as well, even though I am doing everything possible to hold my hand, arm and body perfectly still.  I know that I am the one who is moving the ball unconsciously, but it sure doesn't feel like it!

The same is true when I create an internal image, in my mind, of the ball moving counterclockwise, left-to-right and forward-and-backward.  It will even hang perfectly still, if that is the image I have and hold in mind.  And, making this even more interesting is just how quickly the real ball changes direction just as soon as I change the

intended-direction in my mind!

In the past, when I would demonstrate this for groups of people, some became quite amazed.  Then, they would become even-more-amazed when I would have a random audience member prove that anyone can do this just as soon as they relax the mind and give it a try!  In fact, we are all doing this moment-after-moment of each and every day!  If you are curious enough, check out ideo-motor movement and ideo-sensory response.

So, the moral of the story is that our bodies respond instantly to our thoughts.  In a sense, our bodies are trying to accomplish something related to what we have in mind.  In other words, think greater-and-greater thoughts because a Positive Narrative really does lead to a Positive Attitude and really does lead to Positive Intentions and then really does lead to Positive Actions!

Once you really understand this, with your own experience, you can then begin, on purpose, to use your intelligence, creativity and wisdom to

earn a truly great life!

Big Picture Exercise!

Part One

We have just been talking about how the body is always responding to our thoughts (see Your Body Is Responding To Your Thoughts on the Mastering Your Mind page).  In fact, in this moment - as I am typing - we have a natural example:  It is because of my personal narrative that I now feel relaxed, at peace, motivated, and inspired all in one enjoyable package.  I woke up feeling this way because my positive narrative and positive attitude generated positive intentions that then caused my brain and body to wake up feeling relaxed, at peace, motivated, and inspired... With every great narrative comes an endless supply of equally great reasons to wake up feeling happy, motivated and in love with life!

 

On this site, we are building our narratives together in a number of creative ways, some consciously and some unconsciously, and now here is a very important exercise to tie it all together, called the Big Picture Exercise!

 

Let's Get Started...

1) Take enough time, now, to imagine at least three different ways that your life can move from this moment all the way to "completion" in the most incredibly easy-to-enjoy and easy-to-appreciate (deeply) ways.  Don't worry about extreme details, just run through something like a 20 second overview for each of the three ways.

2) As you are imagining at least "three different ways that your life can move from this moment all the way to completion in the most incredibly easy-to-enjoy and easy-to-appreciate (deeply) ways", be certain to notice any common-and-desirable themes that emerge.  Then, each time you revisit this exercise, take your common-and-desirable-themes and build upon them.  

For example: If you discover that you really want to move-to and live-in Hawaii, then you might might imagine yourself as a 115 year old person, happy and healthy, surrounded by your beautiful and loving family.  And in this scene, you might imagine yourself telling the beautiful and amazing story of how you came to live in such a great place for such a long time.  Then, in repeats of this exercise, to build on this theme you might imagine a bunch of amazing / easy-to-enjoy and easy-to-appreciate ways that life really can take you there.

 - Understand that A) you might actually achieve the exact vision that you created in your mind or B), there is an even-greater chance that you are going to achieve something even-greater than what you first imagined!  Often we satisfy our visions by achieving something parallel and/or very similar and equally rewarding.  And often, we even-more-than satisfy our visions by eventually discovering that we have actually been able to achieve something even greater than our original vision!

It's all in the "eye of the beholder".  Those who create and maintain an awesome narrative and then, for the rest of their lives, walk into their "vision" of that awesome narrative, go on to live an awesome life regardless of whether or not the final outcome matches perfectly or matches perfectly-imperfectly!  

 - It's important then, when doing this exercise, to imagine greatness not just for yourself, but for everything and everybody else around you as well.  Your narrative has an incredible opportunity to become a well-formed "piece of the greater puzzle", and this is what is going to allow you to then experience the synergistic relationship, with greatness in life, that you really want!

- What do we need to have along the way as we are "walking into the vision" of our positive narratives?  For starters, we need to develop a bigger-than-life sense-of-patience, a bigger-than-life sense-of-humor, a bigger-than-life sense-of-inspiration-and-motivation, a bigger-than-life willingness-to-apply-ourselves, a bigger-than-life wisdom to ask "the universe" for help-and-guidance, and a bigger-than-life appreciation for each loving step deeper-and-deeper into mastery until experiencing mastery-of-mastery itself becomes our only experience!  

 

And all of these things are going to come more-and-more naturally, now, as we are practicing each day to build and maintain an even greater-and-greater narrative for the kind of exciting adventure that brings happiness, love for life and much more!

How To Deepen Your Experience In Life!

 1) The underlying principle here, is this: what we can feel, speaking about the body, we can learn to coordinate.  And we develop this feeling and coordination, equally, in order to enhance good feelings and in order to release those feelings that are not good.  

2) When we feel good, for example, we want to feel it all-around-the-entire-body so that good feelings are spread out enough to be enjoyable, instead of being too concentrated and overwhelming.

3) When we do not feel good, we want to spread those feelings all around the body, just as we do with good feelings.  However, in this scenario we can spread them around the body so thinly that they simply evaporate the moment we decide that it is time to relax and let go.  This is very much like the way a thin layer of water quickly evaporates from a sidewalk or driveway on a hot and sunny, summer day!  

 

How Do We Learn To Do This?

One simple and effective way to do this is to spend time using only the mind to tune-into, and sense, each part of the body.  The following exercise is going to provide an important way for us to plunge deeply into the "what you can feel, you can coordinate" equation.

 

Full-Body Awareness Exercise

1) Find A Very Comfortable Body Position For You To

Become Peaceful  and Relax.

2) Using Only Your Mind's Awareness, Feel For The Easiest Place In-or-On Your Body That You Can Sense Your Pulse, The One That Comes From Your Heartbeat.

- Most people feel it first in the palms-of-their-hands or in the soles-of-their-feet, but it can be sensed anywhere that you place your mind's awareness and wait.  With that said, your chest is perhaps the most natural place to sense your heartbeat.  However, some people find this location to be a bit challenging at first, probably because they have been ignoring it for so long.

3) Once You Have Learned To Sense Your Pulse, Using Only Your Mind's Awareness, Choose A Starting Point In-or-On The Body And Then Go About Feeling Everything One-Small-Section At A Time Until You Have Connected-With-and-Felt Absolutely Everything Inside-and-Out!

Here Are Some Helpful Hints

1) Place your mind's awareness in an area of your body and then wait until you have become relaxed and focused enough to sense your pulse in that same area.  Then move just and inch or two into the direction of your choice and repeat the same process until you have covered the entire body, inside and out.

2) With practice you can learn to save time by sensing matching positions on both arms, hands and fingers.  Then you can do the same with matching positions on both legs, feet and toes.

3) Be sure to move your awareness in-and-out of every tooth, and to move no more quickly than your ability to remain in-tune with your body's pulse.

4) Be sure to place your awareness inside your brain, your eyes, your ears, your bones, your internal organs, and the rest of your body.  Always wait until you feel your pulse in each location before moving on.

5) Practice this exercise until it is easy to sense your body's pulse, instantly, in any location that you focus your mind.  Also, learn how to feel the entire body all at once.

6) Memorize what it feels like to be "this healthy" and to be "this youthful" and then hold that feeling-memory as a reference point in your mind for 1) a good and healthy feeling to enjoy and 2) for a strong reference point to conjure up anytime you need a good-and-healthy target to aim for during a time of healing.  And, if you happen to have a memory of what it feels like to be even healthier and even more youthful than you are at this moment, then be certain to use that feeling-memory instead to enjoy-all-the-benefits of using it in the same way that has been described above.

Ultimately!

The moment that we learn how to relax and focus enough to feel our pulse all throughout our body is the same moment that we gain power to harness yet another life-changing opportunity to deepen our experience in life!

With this skill under our belts, we can relax-and-feel-good, all over, and we can relax-and-release negative emotions, all over, plus there are even more benefits for us to discover!

Using This Exercise For Meditation & Mindfulness!

The ability to relax and enter into a state of natural focus, as we have done in the exercise above, is also the ability to meditate and be mindful.  And, the fact that we are being mindful of good feelings in the body then provides yet another great incentive to remain mindful.  Plus, it is also one-more-great-reason to further develop our healthy sleeping, eating, relaxing, exercising, stretching, and thinking habits, because who doesn't want to be mindful and remain mindful of feeling better-and-better?  That's a win, win experience for us all to enjoy! :)

Life Is Like Riding A Bicycle

How We Earn-Our-Way To Enjoy-Greater-Relationships

When we rate ourselves honestly, in terms of personal growth, using a simple scale of one-to-ten (one being the lowest quality and ten being the highest), some very clear and very useful patterns begin to emerge.

With That Said, let's take a good look!

- When two "ones" get together as friends, coworkers or otherwise, the sheer lack of personal growth is nearly guaranteed to generate all kinds of dissonance for everyone involved.

- Someone who is a "three" is not going to be able to recognize and appreciate, let alone satisfy, someone who is a seven, eight or nine - they  simply do not yet have the capacity.

- Someone who is now a "six" and who is actively growing up through the ranks has a chance to recognize, appreciate and grow into compatibility with someone else who is already a seven or an eight, but no one should be holding their breath (so to speak) and applying any pressure to do so.

- Two people who meet when they are both "sevens" might grow into eights and nines together, but there is no guarantee that one or both is going to grow at all.

- Two people who meet as "eights" and then grow into "nines" together are going to think that they are in heaven-on-earth while still realizing, with a healthy sense of humility, that nobody is going to be perfect.

- Nines can recognize, understand and appreciate all as they continue to climb upward toward becoming an impossible-to-achieve "perfect-ten". 

 

- In addition, sevens, eights and nines have finally become wise enough to know that they are not going to "save" anyone from being a lower number. From experience they know that each person is clearly on their own path and must take personal-responsibility in order to wake up, get inspired and grow upward.

- If you are a seven, eight or a nine, the best way you can help others is to live beautifully and completely according to your own unique potential to do so.  This is going to provide the greatest-possible-role-model for the greatest-number-of-people in healthy ways that really are going to inspire-and-motivate the rest of us to earn-up and come-up to join you!

Morning Meditation!

Optional Backstory

I used to teach Tai Chi - before that, I had developed a personal practice that I called Effortless-Body-and-Mind.  I gave it this name because Effortless-Body-and-Mind describes, perfectly, what it feels like when the body and mind are brought into proper alignment with our natural design for being relaxed, clear-minded, flexible, strong, and well-coordinated.  It is a simple and focused exploration of the body and mind's design that few others were interested in, from a marketing standpoint, so I started to teach tai chi instead. 

 

My time with tai chi really helped me to deepen my understanding of how the body works.  However, what I really wanted to share with students was the effortless feeling that came from training relaxation, flexibility, strength, and coordination with a slightly different focus compared to tai chi.  Over time it became clear that the average tai chi student was looking for something quite different than what I was teaching.  One student pointed out that the other people in class, including himself, were looking for a more commercialized format.  So, this is what I mean by the statement, I used to teach tai chi. :)
